In this episode you’ll listen to lesson 1 of the 10th grade English course of the Ron Paul Curriculum. This Western Literature I course is taught by Dr. Gary North.

This course covers Western literature from the Hebrews to the Renaissance. It is designed to be complementary to the course on the history of Western civilization, also from the Hebrews to the Renaissance. Both courses end in 1492.

10th Grade English Course Overview

In this 36-week course, students complete daily reading assignments and watch a video commentary on Monday through Thursday. Friday’s video will review the previous four lessons. The student will be expected to write a short essay on Friday about the main topic of the week.

The class covers the following:

  • Hebrew literature
  • Classical Greek literature
  • Roman literature to the time of Augustus
  • Roman literature and Christian literature, 400 to 1,000
  • Christian literature from 1,000 to 1250.
  • Renaissance Literature from 1250 to 1492

When this course is completed, students will have the ability to understand why a particular region had a particular kind of literature written by a particular author. Students will have answers to those crucial five questions: “who, what, where, when, and why?” This will apply both to the student’s understanding of history and literature.
