In this episode Richard Emmons interviews Bradley Fish, Jr. who teaches the English 8 course for the Ron Paul Curriculum.

Course Overview of English 8

With the English 8 course, students will continue to have lessons in vocabulary along with literature. But the big emphasis for English 8 is writing.

While it is important for students to enjoy reading, and they will have assigned literature time, they will be focused on learning writing skills and practicing them with short daily assignments. The ability to write well is being lost in our culture, but as an important part of the Ron Paul Curriculum, students should see a marked improvement in their ability to express thoughts and arguments in a cohesive, logical manner. Parents will only be required to read and grade weekly essay assignments.

Students will learn organizational skills including outlining and mind mapping. Instructor Bradley Fish shares with us in this podcast episode how to mind map the topic “basketball” as an example.

Students will also learn how to speed write and do research correctly.

Because students will learn to write well and quickly, they will be prepared to take the English Composition CLEP exam (6 college credits) after completing English 8.
