In this episode you’ll listen to Lesson 1 of the 8th Grade English course of the Ron Paul Curriculum.

From the course description:

The 8th Grade English class combines organizational skills, research habits, essay writing, and much more into a single writing course. The literature which accompanies the video lessons and writing assignments was chosen to reinforce the techniques of good writing that are being studied in the class.

While it is important for students to enjoy reading, and they will have assigned literature time, they will be focused on learning writing skills and practicing them with short daily assignments. The ability to write well is being lost in our culture, but as an important part of the Ron Paul Curriculum, your student should see a marked improvement in his/her ability to express thoughts and arguments in a cohesive, logical manner. Parents will only be required to grade weekly essays.

You can learn more about this course by listening to episode 13 of the Ron Paul Homeschooling Podcast. In that episode you’ll hear Richard Emmons interview Bradley Fish, Jr. who describes how the course is taught and what is covered. This course prepares students to take the English Composition CLEP examination at the end of the 8th grade. Click here to go to the show notes page for the English 8 interview.
